The Calgary Flames have recalled Dryden Hunt and placed Anthony Mantha on the injured reserve

The Calgary Flames made some roster moves ahead of their game against the Boston Bruins. In their last game against the Montreal Canadiens, Anthony Mantha was injured and did not return. He has since been placed on the injured reserve.

Flames recall Dryden Hunt

In Mantha’s place, the Flames have called up Dryden Hunt from the Calgary Wranglers. Hunt has been playing exclusively in the AHL so far this season and has two goals and eight assists in 12 games played. While the Wranglers have been on a tear in the AHL, Hunt has had a statistical performance just a little bit worse than last season.

On the Wranglers’ top line is where Hunt has found himself to start the year. He’s been alongside two young guns with hot starts in Rory Kerins and Jakob Pelletier. Hunt will serve a fourth line and 13th forward role while he’s with the Flames. A defensive style of play will allow him to help on the penalty kill and in a physical sense. This matches how the fourth line has been used this season.

Hunt featured in 28 games with the Flames last year where he put up three goals and five assists.

Mantha to the injured reserve

Anthony Mantha has had an up-and-down start to his career with the Calgary Flames. In his first three games, he produced two goals and four points while looking like his line with Jonathan Huberdeau and Martin Pospisil had found some chemistry.

The next six games were miserable as he went pointless. He also had a brief demotion to the fourth line for a lack of effort. He then heated up again with three points in four games. He’s now faced his biggest low so far facing injury in the most recent game against the Canadiens after getting hit by former Flames prospect, Emil Heineman. There is no current timeline for Mantha’s lower-body injury.
