Jonathan Huberdeau’s Calgary Flames career has not been a fun time for anyone.
The Flames thought they were getting an MVP-calibre player to fill the hole that Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau left. Huberdeau thought that he would fill that role to lead the team to a Stanley Cup on the heels of a massive new contract.
Neither of that has come to pass.
The main finger you can point to is Huberdeau’s lack of offensive production in Calgary, where the rhetoric has been that he has never been able to match his 115-point season his last year in Florida.
Well, I am happy to share that Huberdeau has in fact finally matched that production… in aggregate across three seasons with the Flames.
No production from Huberdeau
Huby-dooby-doo, where are you?
With eight points through his first fifteen games this season, Huberdeau finally has reached the 115-point plateau as a member of the Flames. The only unfortunate part was that is how many points he had in his final season as a member of the Panthers:
| Season | Games Played | Goals | Assists | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021–22 (FLA) | 80 | 30 | 85 | 115 |
| 2022–23 | 79 | 15 | 40 | 55 |
| 2023–24 | 81 | 12 | 40 | 52 |
| 2024–25 | 13 | 5 | 3 | 8 |
| Flames Totals | 173 | 32 | 83 | 115 |
The numbers are both hard to look at and hard to look away from at the same time. Through 173 games as a member of the Flames, he still hasn’t matched his NHL record of 85 assists in a season by a left winger. Yes, he has scored two more goals, but in nearly double the amount of games, it’s a consolation prize.
No one would have bet on Huberdeau’s production being what it is, not even Amazon Slots Casino Ontario, but here we are.
In his final season, he produced at a 1.44 point-per-game rate, while during his time in Calgary, he is only sitting at 0.66. That is a tough pill to swallow for both the player and the team. He is not worth the $10.5M he is being paid per season, but the first guy to own up to that is Huberdeau who clearly has been feeling the pressure ever since.
He looked to be on a tear to start the season, but since then has fallen back a bit in terms of point pace. Still lots of time left on his contract to change the narrative, but so far that storyline isn’t the best to continue.
