The Calgary Flames have made more roster cuts as the regular season is just around the corner. Among the cuts includes defensive prospect Hunter Brzustewicz, who has shined throughout training camp and the preseason.
Assignments and cuts
The following players have been assigned to the AHL:
- D Jonathan Aspirot
- F Clark Bishop
- D Hunter Brzustewicz
- F Martin Frk
- F Justin Kirkland
- F Sam Morton
Additionally, the Flames have placed Dryden Hunt, Walker Duehr, and Jarred Tinordi on waivers. If they clear, they’ll report to the AHL.
The battle for the bottom-six spots has been one of the major storylines of the preseason. Simply put, the Flames have too many options for players who can fill those roles, and only the best will win a job.
Brzustewicz’s play throughout training camp has been very encouraging for Flames fans. Starting in the minors might be a blessing in disguise for him, as he’ll be playing his first professional season. Who knows, if he stands out for the Calgary Wranglers, he could be a candidate for an NHL call-up if the opportunity arises.
