The Flames have assigned three more players to the Wranglers and placed Ilya Solovyov on waivers

The Calgary Flames have announced more cuts to their roster as training camp continues to dwindle down. In a harsh defence battle, the Flames have cut three prospects, including Artem Grushnikov, whom they acquired via trade last year.

Assignments and cuts

The following players have been assigned to the AHL:

  • G Waltteri Ignatjew
  • D Yan Kuznetsov
  • D Artem Grushnikov

The Flames also waived Ilya Solovyov today. If he clears waivers, he will report to the Calgary Wranglers.

Solovyov and Yan Kuznetsov both featured with the Flames last year. Solovyov played 10 games, notching three assists. Kuznetsov played one game. Grushnikov has yet to play an NHL game but looked impressive in training camp. He is likely to make his NHL debut sometime in 2024–25.

Waltteri Ignatjew got his first taste of North American action during the Young Stars Classic in Penticton and during preseason. He will look to take the starting reigns for the Wranglers and further get used to North American ice.
