Calgary Flames sign Jakob Pelletier to a one-year, two-way $800K contract

The Calgary Flames have finally inked their former first-round pick.

The team has signed Jakob Pelletier to a one-year, two-way contract worth 800k at the NHL level. Craig Conroy talked about how a deal was close at the annual golf tournament, with Pelletier in attendance, so a deal was just a matter of time.

“Show Me” Deal

This deal is a bit of an interesting one for a player once touted as one of the team’s future stars. Pelletier looked to be making full-time strides in the NHL in the 2022-23 season but was completely derailed in 2023-24 due to a significant shoulder injury.

As a result, he missed out on a massive year of development, while also having other players like Connor Zary and Martin Pospisil jump him on the depth chart. There is a ripe opportunity this year for Pelletier to stick in the NHL full-time, but the two-way nature of the deal doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence from the Flames.

You could view this as pure motivation for Pelletier to stick in the NHL, but it seems strange to give him the same deal as Jarred Tinordi. This deal is completely on Pelletier to show up and make himself a mainstay in the NHL. Should he finally find his feet, then the financial reward will come next summer.

There is no doubt that everyone is rooting for Pelletier, and maybe this deal gets him to that point.
