Former Calgary Flame Johnny Gaudreau, and his brother Matthew, killed in tragic accident

The hockey community is grieving this morning for the sudden loss of one of its biggest stars.

Former Calgary Flames forward and current Columbus Blue Jacket Johnny Gaudreau has sadly passed away at 31. Equally as heart-wrenching is that Gaudreau passed away with his brother, Matthew, in a tragic accident last night.

The Blue Jackets released the following statement this morning breaking the news:

Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts are with the entire Gaudreau family during this unimaginably tragic time. Their family will always be part of the C of Red.

For fans in Columbus, Calgary, and the entire world, Johnny Hockey was a true icon and star in the league. Breaking into the league with the Flames, he would play nine seasons with the team before signing in Columbus where he played the last two years. He was beloved for his style of play and for proving those who doubted his size wrong.

There wasn’t a moment Johnny was on the ice where he didn’t make some sort of magic.

Thank you for everything, Johnny.
