Calgary Flames sign Ryan Lomberg to two-year deal with $2M AAV

The Calgary Flames have brought back forward Ryan Lomberg. They’ve signed the Stanley Cup champion to a two-year deal carrying a $2M AAV.

Adding grit and energy

Lomberg originally started his NHL career with the Flames all the way back in 2015-16 when he first played professional games for the AHL’s Stockton Heat. He bounced around the AHL and ECHL, finally earning an ELC and playing NHL games for the Flames in 2017-18.

He earned a full-time role with the Florida Panthers in 2021-22 and played full seasons there ever since. In this past year’s playoffs, he played six games and hoisted the Stanley Cup.

He’s a smaller player but plays extremely hard, is an absolute nightmare to play against on the forecheck, and brings high energy every single shift.

Lomberg’s deal is short term and not a terribly high AAV, and should be a fun player to have during the team’s rebuild. He’ll make the Flames harder to play against, help bolster a culture of hard work and energy, and it will be a ton of fun to see the Flames trot out him and Martin Pospisil together next season.

Welcome back to Calgary, Ryan!
