The Calgary Flames have signed 26-year-old defenseman Jake Bean to a two-year deal carrying a $1.75M AAV. Bean was unqualified by the Columbus Blue Jackets this week and became an unrestricted free agent today. Bean is originally from Calgary and the son of former CSEC president and CEO, John Bean.
Blueline Depth
With Oliver Kylington hitting free agency, the addition of Bean adds depth to the Flames’ blueline at a low cost, short term option.
Bean hasn’t been fantastic for the Blue Jackets the past few seasons, but is still quite young at 26 and fills a need on the left side. He put up four goals and 13 points in 72 games for Columbus last year, stands at 6’1″ and 191 lbs. He skates well and will be a welcome addition to the bottom half of the Flames’ defense corps.
Stay tuned for more on Bean in the coming days.
