The second day of the NHL draft is underway. With their second pick in the second round, the Calgary Flames have selected Jacob Battaglia out of the OHL with the 62nd overall pick.
Jacob Battaglia player profile
Battaglia is a pure scorer through and through. He’s all about creating offence and is certainly not known for his defensive abilities. Battaglia is a big-bodied winger standing at 6’1″ and 196 pounds and could be described as a power forward. His 31 goals this past season led the Frontenacs in scoring. He also finished second on his team for points.

| 2021–22 | Toronto Jr. Canadiens U16 AAA | GTHL U16 | 57 | 37 | 55 | 92 |

Analyzing the Flames’ pick
The Flames continue to focus on offence in this draft. Much like their previous three picks so far, Battaglia is an offensive player whose primary skill is creating scoring chances and goals. He also brings some solid size to the Flames prospect pool on the wing.
What’s next for Battaglia
Battaglia will return to the OHL next year where he will lead the Frontenacs offence and will be heavily relied on to help them be a competitive team. There are still a few kinks in his game he’ll need to work on so he’s more of a long-term bet.
