The Calgary Flames have back-to-back picks in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL draft. With their first of the two, 106th overall, they have selected right winger Trevor Hoskin out of the OJHL. With their second fourth-rounder, they’ve traded down with the Philadelphia Flyers to get a fifth- and sixth-round pick.
Trevor Hoskin player profile
Hoskin was the OJHL MVP this past season, leading all OJHL skaters in scoring with a whopping 42 goals and 100 points in 52 games. He added another 11 goals and 28 points in 18 playoff games. Scouts view Hoskin as a two-way player, but always a threat to create offense. He tracks with purpose and always hunts pucks. He was ranked 120th by The Hockey News’ Ryan Kennedy, but not on other boards. Hoskin will be attending Niagara University in the NCAA next season.

Analyzing the Flames’ pick
In the fourth round, this is a fine pick for the Flames. Hoskin is a right winger, a position of need for the Flames, has good size at 6’1″ and 172 lbs, and will be playing in a very good league next year in the NCAA. However, Hoskin is 20 years old, very old for this draft, and is a bit of a reach that way. However, if he can develop rapidly in the NCAA Hoskin could end up being a bottom-sixer for the Flames.
What’s next for Hoskin
Hoskin will begin his NCAA career next season. His future professional career is 100% dependent on how he does at that level, and how quickly he can dominate, if he can in fact do that.
