In a fun scheduling quirk, the Calgary Flames faced off against the San Jose Sharks in Game 82 two years in a row, and both times, the club started Dustin Wolf against his hometown team. Last year, Wolf won his NHL debut with the Flames taking it 3–1. This time around, the Flames potted two extra goals as the final scoreline read 5–1 for Calgary.
The Flames had some milestones including Adam Klapka’s first NHL goal, Blake Coleman scoring 30 goals, and MacKenzie Weegar scoring 20 goals (and 17 at even strength to set a new Flames franchise record for most even strength goals by a defenceman).
Wolf was seconds away from adding the milestone list for his first career shutout but unfortunately, the Sharks’ lone goal came with less than 10 seconds remaining in the game thus breaking Wolf’s shutout bid. Either way, the Flames put on a show in front of the thinned-out Saddledome crowd to put it in the Win Column one last time this year.
