Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 72: Calgary dealt another loss for their fifth in a row

The Calgary Flames were looking to avoid losing five games in a row as it never feels good to lose, but at this point in the season, looking to the future is just as important and the sting of losing shouldn’t feel anywhere near as bad. As such, the St. Louis Blues got the better of Calgary and handed them consecutive loss number five.

Notes and discussion from the charts are all below, read on to see it all!

Game events

  • Dustin Wolf got the start but it wasn’t his best game as he gave up four goals on 18 shots. Not all of the goals were his fault though. The more Wolf plays, the less worry there is about his play. He legitimately looks like an NHL-calibre goalie.
  • The Flames were not good in the faceoff circle as the Blues outclassed them in that regard.

All situations Corsi

  • The Flames didn’t register a shot attempt until the first period was well underway.
  • The game saw a lot of goals bunched together as well as three separate one-goal leads turn into tie games.
  • All three Flames goals were right in front of the net which is nice to see from a systems point of view.
  • Calgary had a good number of high-danger shots overall.
  • The Blues also scored a lot of net-front goals too.

5v5 Corsi

  • The Blues’ last shot attempt at 5v5 came midway through the third period as they played to defend rather than extend their lead.
  • Calgary had a good third period push in an attempt to tie the game after giving up the early goal just two minutes into the final frame.
  • The two teams were fairly even with both sides getting high-danger shots off at 5v5.
  • The Flames were simply edged as St. Louis got the extra goal which was the difference maker in the game.
