Calgary Flames forward Martin Pospisil given hearing for hit on Seattle Kraken’s Vince Dunn

Calgary Flames forward Martin Pospisil has been given a hearing to answer for his hit to Vince Dunn in the third period of the Flames’ loss to the Seattle Kraken. He was given a five-minute major penalty for boarding and a ten-minute misconduct penalty in the game. Take a look at the hit here:

The incident that led to Pospisil’s ejection

Pospisil was a wrecking ball all night long, throwing multiple hits over the course of the game. This was not the first but the second massive hit that he threw in the game, with the first being this one on Adam Larsson:

However, with under ten minutes left in the third and with the Flames down by a couple of goals, Pospisil caught his man with his back turned and knocked him head-first into the boards. The Kraken players took exception to the hit, fighting Pospisil subsequently. After a short review, Pospisil was assessed the penalties that took him out of the game.

What happens next for Pospisil

Pospisil has been a great addition to the Flames since being recalled, and the Flames have an outstanding record with him in the lineup. However, he has been known to toe the line in terms of his play. Thankfully for both him and the Flames, his hearing will not be in-person, meaning his maximum suspension will be under five games.

A betting man would expect Pospisil to get at least a couple of games, especially given how late in the game this incident happened. The Flames are on the road for the next three games, taking on Tampa Bay, Florida, and Carolina before heading back home. There is a good chance Pospisil does not get to feature in any of those games and loses salary as a result.

Pospisil will face the league’s Department of Player Safety tomorrow by phone, with an announcement following shortly thereafter.
