Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 50: New-look roster takes down Bruins as Kuzmenko scores in his Flames debut

The Calgary Flames aren’t the same team they used to be. One All-Star break was all it took for the roster to look significantly different. No more Elias Lindholm, hello Andrei Kuzmenko. No more shoulder injuries, hello Jakob Pelletier and Kevin Rooney. These are just a few roster changes that got back to action after the break against the Boston Bruins.

The visiting Flames outplayed the Bruins and came away with two points in a resounding win. Some players have already said they’ve felt like this was their best game all year long.

Notes and discussion from the charts are all below, read on to see it all!

Game events

  • The Flames outshot the Bruins and were able to limit Boston to just 22 shots. The Bruins have an average of 30.1 shots per game this season so being held to just 22 is an impressive defensive feat for Calgary.

  • This was Jonathan Huberdeau’s first three-point game since December 20, 2022.
  • This was also Nazem Kadri’s first three-point game since December 5, 2022. Nice to see them both hit strong individual totals.

All situations Corsi

  • The Flames outplayed the Bruins in many areas of the game, and shot attempts were a big one. Once the Flames got going, Boston never caught up again.
  • Calgary kept pressing through the first 40 minutes with their 2–0 lead, and while the Bruins scored to pull within one, Calgary’s response took the win out of Boston’s sails.
  • Calgary got goals for all over the ice and the offence wasn’t actually that effective at generating high-danger chances.
  • However, they didn’t give up too many high-danger chances either.

5v5 Corsi

  • At 5v5, the Flames looked extremely good. They were better than Boston for virtually the whole game and they made the Bruins look very pedestrian. This is the same Boston Bruins team that was the last team to hit double-digit losses this season and they have the Flames to thank for that.
  • The Flames were steady at 5v5 but the Bruins were really not there at all.
  • Boston had lots of low-danger shots and were held to the outside for much of their 5v5 efforts.
