Calgary Flames

Oliver Kylington making his return to the Calgary Flames lineup tonight

After nearly 20 months of waiting, the Calgary Flames finally look to be getting Oliver Kylington back in their NHL lineup.

Away from the team for the entire 2022–23 season and absent for the start of training camp, Kylington and the organization have slowly started to integrate him back into hockey with the Wranglers and most recently Flames practices.

The team has preached patience with Kylington, who hasn’t played NHL hockey since the team was eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in 2022, but the time finally looks to be now for him.

A triumphant return for Kylington

The buzz got going with our dear friend Pat Steinberg announcing that tonight could be the night:

Based on his practicing yesterday alongside Jordan Oesterle it sure looked like the timing was close. Steinberg’s report additionally confirmed that tonight’s likely lineup included Kylington:

Now the key thing at the time of writing is that the Flames do not have an open roster spot for Kylington, so Ryan Huska said that at this point in time, it was not official. With Nick DeSimone on waivers, the team will have an open spot at 12 p.m. MST whether he is claimed or not.

I would assume there will be more announcements today once the paperwork is official, but it would be shocking for Kylington not to be in the starting lineup once the spot opens.

I can only imagine what the reception will be at the Saddledome for a player that has been through a lot, and one the fanbase respects so dearly. Expect the emotions to be high for the player, team, and fans when he is announced.

Welcome back Shilly!
