Calgary Flames forward Martin Pospisil avoids the worst, out “a couple weeks” with injury

One of the Calgary Flames’ most pleasantly surprising players of the season, Martin Pospisil, went down with an injury in last night’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs and did not return.

It looked like an innocent play, with Pospisil getting accidentally tripped by the skate of Auston Matthews and crashing very awkwardly into the boards.

He played just 3:46 before exiting the contest. Initial reports didn’t look good, but Ryan Huska gave some good news post game when asked about Pospisil’s status.

Fortunately, it looks like Pospisil will miss a couple weeks, but mostly avoided the worst on what could have been a much more dangerous and consequential play.

The All-Star break is scheduled from February 1-3 in Toronto this year, and the Flames’ next game following the event is February 6th against the Boston Bruins on the road. If Pospisil misses all games until then, he’ll be out for the Flames’ next four games. Hopefully that’s all it will be and Pospisil will be able to join the team in Boston.

Because the Flames have just one extra forward in the recently recalled Adam Klapka, they will likely call up another player from the Calgary Wranglers. Candidates include Matt Coronato, Ben Jones, Emilio Pettersen, Dryden Hunt, and Walker Duehr.
