Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames are tied for the league lead with eleven 20+ point scorers this season

The Calgary Flames lack elite talent, but they definitely have had scoring depth so far in 2023–24. And that scoring depth has shown up in waves so far this season. Who expected Blake Coleman to have 20 goals and 38 points in 44 games? Pretty neat. If the team wants to make the playoffs, they’ll need this depth scoring to continue showing up, plus the strong play of Jacob Markstrom to continue.

The Flames are tied for the league lead with eleven skaters with 20+ points this season. They held the lead, but Evgenii Dadonov helped the Dallas Stars tie the Flames when he notched his 19th and 20th points on Tuesday.

The eleven skaters with 20+ points on the Flames so far are:

Flames SkaterPoints
Blake Coleman38
Nazem Kadri36
Yegor Sharangovich31
Elias Lindholm29
MacKenzie Weegar26
Andrew Mangiapane25
Mikael Backlund25
Rasmus Andersson25
Noah Hanifin23
Jonathan Huberdeau23
Connor Zary22

The Flames have depth

The Flames have gotten great contributions from recent Stanley Cup champions in Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri. These guys know how to win and are leading this Flames team in trying to secure a wild card spot.

The team is also getting solid offensive contribution from three defencemen, with MacKenzie Weegar, Rasmus Andersson, and Noah Hanifin all pitching in. Weegar in particular has really stood out and seems to have really found his confidence. He’s looked awesome in a Flames jersey since the All-Star break last year.

The team still needs more from Jonathan Huberdeau and Elias Lindholm. But they have really turned a corner since Huberdeau was reunited with Lindholm and Sharangovich. Similarly, the Mangiapane – Backlund – Coleman line was reunited at the same time and has been the same form of dominance we’ve seen for the past couple of seasons.

The Flames are scoring by committee and it’s what’s keeping them in the playoff race.
