Calgary Flames forward Blake Coleman named NHL’s Second Star of The Week

The Calgary Flames have a star!

After what can only be described as a miraculous season, the NHL has honoured Flames forward Blake Coleman with the Second Star of the Week. Although his season as a whole has been spectacular, Coleman went on an absolute heater last week to earn the nod.

A week to remember for Coleman

With four goals and three assists in just seven games, Coleman was one of the main reasons the Flames went a perfect 3–0–0. You could look to Jacob Markstrom and the Flames’ dads and mentors as big influences on their record, but Coleman takes the cake.

He scored the game-winning goal against the Ottowa Senators, followed up by a three-point opening period against the Arizona Coyotes, and then finished it off with a goal and an assist against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

On the season, Coleman sits with 19 goals and 18 assists in just 43 games played. To put that in perspective on his career, he is three goals away from tying his career-high of 22 but he did that over 78 games in 2018–19. As well, he is just one point away from tying his career-high of 38 set last season, but that was throughout a full 82-game season.

Essentially, Coleman is on pace to almost double his career-high if he can continue this pace. He does have an outrageous shooting percentage of 18.4%, which is likely to regress a bit, but for now, the team will take it as they continue the fight for a wild card playoff position.

Long live the Texas Tiger!
