Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 43: Calgary caps off Dad and Mentors trip with a rare win in Vegas

Playing in front of their dads and mentors, the Calgary Flames visited an arena they don’t often win in: The T-Mobile Arena. But, with some very important people watching in the crowd, the Flames topped the Vegas Golden Knights to pick up their third win in a row.

Notes and discussion from the charts are all below, read on to see it all!

Game events

  • The Flames were outshot but not by a large margin. Jacob Markstrom’s sharp play was a big key for the team. More on being outshot a bit later.
  • Calgary was also much, much less physical than the Golden Knights.

All situations Corsi

  • The Flames started the game fairly slow, but once they got their first power play, it was literally a momentum changer that spanned for as long as they deemed fit.
  • Calgary maintained the edge in offensive pressure after their first power play, and scored on their second man advantage. They continued to hold the edge until the scored their third goal of the game.
  • On Calgary being outshot, they completely dialled it back in the third period as they played to defend a three-goal lead.
  • Things you love to see: Three goals from right in front of the net.
  • Despite the Flames not getting many high danger chances, they converted on the few ones they did get.

5v5 Corsi

  • With much of the game being played at 5v5, the offensive pressure went in Vegas’ favour overall, but not the scoring edge. Calgary’s two 5v5 goals topped Vegas’ goal that came too late as Calgary defended against the comeback attempt.
  • The Flames preferred to shoot from the left side a lot more this game. Maybe they did some pregame scouting on Logan Thompson.
