Calgary Flames officially activate Jakob Pelletier and Kevin Rooney from injured reserve

Great news from the Calgary Flames today as they announced two roster transactions.

First, forward Jakob Pelletier has been assigned to the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers.

And second, forward Kevin Rooney has been placed on waivers, likely for the purpose of assignment to the Wranglers as well.

Flames players are healthy after preseason surgeries

Both Pelletier and Rooney underwent shoulder surgery on October 4, 2023, and were expected to be out long-term.

However, with the recent assignments, this is an indication that both players are healthy and ready to return to normal practices, starting with the Wranglers.

Prior to the opening night of the season, Pelletier was placed on Season-Opening Injured Reserve (SOIR) and Rooney was placed on Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR). Since Pelletier is not waiver-eligible, the Flames were able to activate him from SOIR and assign him directly to the Wranglers.

Rooney is eligible for waivers and will need to clear waivers before he can be assigned to the Wranglers.

Presumably, both players will start their seasons there, with recalls for both players a distinct possibility in the near future.

Wranglers reinforcements mean good news

The Wranglers have received three reinforcements from the big club in the last week, with Oliver Kylington reporting to the Wranglers on a conditioning stint late last week.

This is great news as the Flames will hopefully have three more NHL options in the coming weeks.

Hopefully, all three players respond well to professional practices and games after being away for so long and are able to find their stride in short order.

In addition, the Flames had another roster transaction where they re-assigned defenceman Yan Kuznetsov back to the Wranglers after being called up while featuring in zero games.
