The Calgary Flames have had a turbulent calendar year, but they closed it out on a positive note by picking up a New Year’s Eve win over against the Philadelphia Flyers.

- Despite playing a strong game, a few traditional stats didn’t go in the Flames’ favour at all, namely giveaways and faceoff wins.
- The Flames’ penalty kill was perfect, killing all four penalties they took.

- The game started slower, but the third period frenzy turned out in Calgary’s favour.
- Blake Coleman played in his 500th NHL game and picked up two points to continue to lead the Flames in scoring.
- Andrew Mangiapane picked up three assists for his first multi-point game in over a month.
- Jonathan Huberdeau finally broke his scoreless streak with an assist. He did not go pointless over the month of December.

- The shot attempts were more or less even throughout the game, but the Flames had periods of strong momentum throughout.
- Being tied heading into the third period, the Flames were much more tenacious, seen in how they started the final frame compared to the Flyers.
- Two goals from in close for Calgary versus one for the Flyers.
- Both teams had a decent number of shot attempts in high-danger areas.
5v5 Corsi
- Compared to all situations Corsi, the Flames were actually dominant at 5v5.
- After a slow start to open the first, Calgary could be considered unlucky to not score in the first despite their flurry of shot attempts.
- At 5v5, the Flames were much better at getting high-danger shots off and managed to score once.
- Calgary was also quite strong at preventing high-danger chances against and were good at shutting down the Flyers.
