The Iginla Update: How Jade, Tij, and Joe Iginla are doing in their respective leagues and seasons so far

Jarome Iginla and the Calgary Flames made a long-awaited reunion this offseason when the team appointed Jarome as special advisor to the general manager. The move reunited Jarome and Craig Conroy in the front office and sparked excitement for the future of the Iginla family in Calgary.

Jarome’s return to the NHL comes at a time when he and his wife Kara’s three kids’ hockey careers are ramping up. Notably, Jarome’s oldest son Tij is draft-eligible this season and has been turning scouts heads this season.

This new series will cover everything you need to know about the next generation of Iginlas in the hockey world.

Jade Iginla

Jade, the oldest of the three siblings is 19 years old playing at Brown University in the NCAA. Prior to attending Brown, Jade played for the Canadian Women’s team at the 2022 U18 World Juniors bringing home the gold. Her first goal from the tournament is a great example of how dangerous Jade’s shot is.

In her first season at Brown University, the 18-year-old freshman was named the co-winner of the ECAC Rookie of the Year, made the all-academic team, and won the team MVP award. Jade finished the season with 17 goals and 23 points in 29 games, tied for seventh in regular season goals while scoring the most points by a Brown University player since the 2006–07 season. Not too shabby.

Evidently, she has her father’s scoring knack. This year, Jade has seven goals and 11 points through 16 games. Brown has had a tough start going 6–9–1 in their first 16 games, but Iginla is still on pace for a 20-point season in under 30 games.

Jade was also named to the Hockey Canada National Women’s Development Team this past July playing in two exhibition series in August.

With the inaugural season of the PWHL on the horizon and national team buzz, Jade will undoubtedly be considered for both international play and a draft selection in the near future.

Tij Iginla

Tij, the second oldest, was selected by the Seattle Thunderbirds ninth overall in the 2021 WHL bantam draft. Last year—his first full season—Tij scored six goals with 18 points on a stacked Seattle Team that lost in the Memorial Cup final.

Entering his second full season, the 17-year-old is draft-eligible and has wasted no time raising his stock with his new team, the Kelowna Rockets.

In 32 games he’s put home 25 goals and 42 points already. The cherry on top, he’s still heating up. Tij has 15 points in his last 10 games and a whopping five goals and 11 points in his last five games, winning last week’s WHL Player of the Week honours. You can’t help but see similarities between Jarome and Tij when you watch this clip.

Tij’s great start to the season earned him a roster spot in next month’s CHL Top Prospects game. The young forward shares his familial shot with his siblings and Dad and has a solid frame at 6’0, 185lbs. Iginla is ranked as high as 14th overall on EliteProspects.com, with most rankings between 15–25th overall.

If you that sounds like a familiar draft position, it is for the Calgary Flames and right where the team is on track to finish at this point in the season. The stars might just be aligning for Tij to don a Flames sweater.

Joe Iginla

We may have saved the best for last folks. Joe, at only 15 years old played his first game in the WHL with the Edmonton Oil Kings on December 15th. The under-age winger didn’t waste any time showing off his shot that scored him 80 goals in 60 U15 AAA games last year. See for yourself as he sniped his first career WHL goal in his second game.

Joe is draft-eligible in 2026 and already has some draft projections discussing him as a top-five pick in his class. Joe has some flash, scoring Michigan and between-the-legs goals to cap off his 142-point AAA season last year.

Needless to say, we’re all interested to see what the 15-year-old can do with the remainder of his rookie season.

A new era of Iginla

All three Iginlas have entered the peak of their seasons and don’t seem to be slowing down at all.

Stay tuned each month for an update on Jade, Tij, and Joe across their respective seasons with highlights, draft rankings and accolades.
