Saturday December 16 2023 NHL Odds & Previews

This week’s Saturday night NHL schedule features six Canadian teams, including two on Hockey Night in Canada.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7:00 p.m. EST for the early game, and the Edmonton Oilers will host the Florida Panthers at 10:00 p.m. EST for the late game.

The earliest game of the day has the Vancouver Canucks visiting the Minnesota Wild at 2:00 p.m. EST. The Montreal Canadiens, Winnipeg Jets, and Calgary Flames are also in action, facing the New York Islanders, Colorado Avalanche, and Tampa Bay Lightning respectively.

The December 16, 2023 NHL schedule has 13 games on the slate and plenty of betting opportunities at the best NHL betting sites including moneylines, puck lines, over/unders and daily NHL player props. Below are our December 16, 2023 NHL odds and previews.

Edmonton Oilers (-130) vs Florida Panthers (+116) – 8:00 p.m. ET

The Oilers just saw the longest winning streak of the season among all teams end at eight games two nights ago at the hands of the Lightning. For a highly motivated team looking to surge towards a playoff spot in the Pacific Division, the Oilers are a solid bet to get back into the win column at home against the Panthers.

Tampa Bay Lightning (-105) at Calgary Flames (-110) – 8:00 p.m. ET

The Flames have been faltering lately, currently on a four-game losing streak. Their matchup against the Lightning is just one in a very difficult stretch for the Flames, who will be without their best defensive defenseman in Chris Tanev and number one goalie in Jacob Markstrom. Smart money is on the Lightning in this one, who have a very favourable line at -105 over at FanDuel.

Winnipeg Jets (+114) vs Colorado Avalanche (-125) – 5:00 p.m. ET

The Central Division opponents are neck and neck in the standings. The Avalanche are currently first in the division by points, but the Jets are just two points back with a game in hand. A win over the Avs in this matchup would catapult the Jets into a tie for first place in the division based on points. These teams are so close that it just makes sense to bet on the underdog, who are the Jets in this case. At +114, there is good value with the Jets.

Last week’s picks

  • Calgary Flames (+105) over New Jersey Devils (-125): Loss – Final score 4-2 Devils
  • Montreal Canadiens (+160) at Buffalo Sabres (-167) – Win – Final score 3-2 (SO) Canadiens
  • Nashville Predators (+152) vs Toronto Maple Leafs (-180) – Loss – Final score 4-0 Maple Leafs
