The Calgary Flames have re-called Matt Coronato from the Calgary Wranglers, Markstrom on injured reserve

The Calgary Flames have re-called forward Matt Coronato from the Calgary Wranglers prior to their Saturday matinee game against the New Jersey Devils. In addition to this roster transaction, the Flames placed Jacob Markstrom on the injured reserve due to his fractured finger.

Coronato’s AHL performance

So far this year, Coronato has featured in 14 games with the Calgary Wranglers in addition to his 10 NHL games. Playing with the Wranglers, Coronato posted a sterling 8–10—18 stat line, where he has been quite effective at scoring. His 18 points have him tied for 30th in the AHL in scoring, but every single player ahead of his has more games played. When looking at points per game, his 1.29 mark puts him 13th in the AHL. That’s a highly impressive mark for the 21-year-old rookie.

Coronato’s spot in the lineup

Pat Steinberg noted that the Flames were missing A.J. Greer and Walker Duehr from practise as both were battling the flu, so it’s very likely he’ll be filling into the vacant fourth line role to start. That said, Ryan Huska isn’t shy to bring out the line blender when things don’t work, so if Coranato is playing like a spark plug, he could easily be promoted to the top-nine. Further, with his shot, expect him to be on a power play unit sooner rather than later.
