Oliver Kylington is back on the ice for practice with the Calgary Flames

Massive Calgary Flames news today as defenceman Oliver Kylington has rejoined the team for practice at Max Bell Arena ahead of their Saturday night clash with the Vancouver Canucks.

Sportsnet’s Ryan Leslie posted this on X (formerly Twitter) this morning: d

Kylington’s history

Due to personal reasons, Kylington has been away from the team for quite some time. He missed the entire 2022–23 season, and despite being present for media photoshoots at the start of the 2023–24 season, he was placed on injured reserve and has not been seen with the team so far.

This is a big moment for Kylington as it’s the first time he’s joined his teammates with a real chance of getting back into the lineup in a long time.

Whatever Kylington has been going through, hopefully, this signals that he’s doing better, to the point where he is ready to explore resuming his job as a professional hockey player. Right now, there is no timeline for his return.

A huge boost for Calgary

For a team with so many negative and distracting storylines so far this season, Kylington’s return to the ice marks a truly amazing moment.

He was a fixture in the team’s top-four in the 2021–22 season and had a fantastic year scoring nine goals and 31 points in 79 games. With Nikita Zadorov gone and the team potentially trading two more top-four defenders, getting Kylington back is a big boost for the Flames.

Of course, we wish nothing but the absolute best for Kylington, and even if he’s not ready to resume playing games just yet, we hope this is a sign that he’s in a better place than he was for the last year and a bit.
