Calgary Flames make additional cuts to their training camp roster

The Calgary Flames have announced the second round of cuts to their training camp roster.

Assignments and cuts

  • Defenseman Etienne Morin has been assigned to the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL
  • Left wing Parker Bell has been assigned to the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL
  • Centre Brett Sutter has been assigned to the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL
  • Right wing William Stromgren has been assigned to the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL
  • Defenseman Jarrod Gourley has been assigned to the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL
  • Defenseman Mikael Diotte has been released from his Amateur Tryout Offer and is a free agent

Nothing surprising on this list as all of these players were not vying for an NHL job this season. The most notable cuts are Morin who played very well in one preseason game for the Flames. He’ll look to build on his D+1 season after getting selected by the Flames in the 2023 NHL Draft.

As well, 2021 second round pick Stromgren played in zero preseason games after a decent performance in Penticton at the Young Stars Classic. This will be his first full professional season in North America and an important year for him to show the organization and league that he deserved to be a second round pick.

Finally, Bell, a fifth round pick in 2022, will play his first full professional season after dominating the WHL with 64 points in 55 games for the Tri-City Americans last year.

Players remaining in camp

After this wave of cuts, Following these moves, the Flames’ camp roster is down to 42 players: 4 goaltenders, 15 defensemen and 23 forwards.
