The player and the General Manager are always front and centre whenever news happens in the NHL. But there is also a lot that goes on behind the scenes before any trade or signing is made. Who does the GM contact to get in contact with a trade acquisition? Who helps players when moving to a new city? The answer to all of the above questions is NHL player agents and their agencies.
Last summer, Matthew Tkachuk told the Flames his decision to not extend. After this, Tkachuk’s agent worked with then GM Brad Treliving to find a trade among the teams on Tkachuk’s preferred list. Both players acquired in the Tkachuk deal, Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar, extended their contracts with the Flames through their agents.
