Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 61: Flames stage come back, blow third period lead, and lose in OT all in the same game

Honestly, who exactly are the Calgary Flames?

With each game looking more and more like the season is on the line, the team needed a huge victory against the best team in the NHL on Tuesday night. What they got was a complete rollercoaster.

The Boston Bruins scored two goals on five shots in the first period, chasing Dan Vladar from the crease. The Flames would get one back in the second period from Blake Coleman, but after two periods of play the shots were 39-9.

You read that right. 39 to 9.

Linus Ullmark was incredible and kept the Bruins in this game countless times.

The third period was it’s own special journey though, with Dillon Dube and Jonathan Huberdeau scoring just over a minute apart to give the Flames a completely unexpected 3-2 lead.

Of course, in classic 2022-23 Calgary Flames fashion, they would take a late penalty and on that powerplay the Bruins would capitalize after Nikita Zadorov’s brain malfunctioned. The game would head to extra time, where the Flames just have just not been good this season.

Despite countless chances in regulation and overtime, the Flames couldn’t get one more past Ullmark and Charlie McAvoy would score with under five seconds left to win the game.

The Calgary Flames deserved to win the game, and should have won, but so many times this season they have just let points slip away.

Decision time in Calgary as the NHL Trade Deadline is just over 48 hours away.
