The Calgary Flames are sitting precariously in the Western Conference playoff race. Desperate for a bounce back after a listless effort against the Detroit Red Wings a few nights ago, the Flames faced the New York Rangers at home.
Jacob Markstrom started in goal for the Flames, and Elias Lindholm was not in the lineup due to the birth of his first child (congrats, Elias!).
The Flames scored two goals in the first 46 seconds of the game, eight seconds apart to set a new NHL record. They dominated in the first, but the Rangers battled back and ultimately sent this game to overtime.
Following a penalty drawn by Dillon Dube, Mikael Backlund tipped home a Jonathan Huberdeau shot to ice the game. It was a massive victory in which Huberdeau and Markstrom had their best games of the season, and hopefully this is the turning point the Flames need.
Charts from the game are below.
