Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 46: Flames get blasted by Avalanche, frustration mounts

The Calgary Flames are still scrapping and fighting in the middle of the Western Conference to stay in a playoff spot. Despite winning the Stanley Cup last season, the Colorado Avalanche entered this game in a similar position, both teams needing wins as the second half of the season wears on.

Unfortunately for the Flames, they were terrible in this game. The Avalanche scored three goals in the first period to go up 3–0 and never looked back. The Flames looked slow, unmotivated, and disengaged for the first 40 minutes, finally showing some life in the third period when Darryl Sutter begrudgingly shuffled the lines to try and ignite a spark.

Tyler Toffoli scored the Flames’ lone goal early in the final frame, but that’s all they could muster. The Avalache added an empty net to seal the game at 4–1.

It was a sad loss for Calgary, and if they want to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot, they’ll have to do much better than they did last night.

Charts from the loss are below.
