Calgary Flames

Breaking down the Calgary Flames’ agency representation

The Calgary Flames are slowly but surely building out their team for 2022–23. A big but lesser talked about part of building a roster is the talks that teams must have with players and their agents. After all, no contract signed means no player on the ice.

Which agents do the players on the Flames employ? Let’s break it all down.

The Calgary Flames agents list

The agent information is listed as per PuckPedia.com and the current listed main Flames roster as per CapFriendly.com, both as of August 11, 2022.

  • Roster Size: 20/23
  • Contracts: 42/50
  • Reserve List: 68/90
  • Injuries: 1

From here, we’ll look at every player currently under contract with the Flames.

Commonalities between players

Clearly, agencies are plentiful in any NHL organization and the Flames are well-represented by many big names. It’s important to also know when an agent is representing multiple players too, as building out good relationships definitely helps when it’s time to negotiate contracts.

Here’s every agent or agency that tends to multiple Flames:

Allan Walsh – Octagon Athlete Representation : Jonathan Huberdeau, Nick DeSimone

Pat Brisson – CAA Sports LLC: Noah Hanifin, Tyler Toffoli

J.P. Barry – CAA Sports LLC: Mikael Backlund, Oliver Kylington

Dan Milstein – Gold Star Sports Management: Nikita Zadorov, Dan Vladar, Ilya Nikolayev, Ilya Solovyov

Newport Sports Management Inc.: Sean Monahan, Chris Tanev, Jacob Markstrom, Trevor Lewis, Adam Ruzicka, Cole Schwindt, Oscar Dansk

O2K Worldwide Management Group, LLC: Dillon Dube, Juuso Valimaki, Walker Duehr, Colton Poolman

The Sports Corporation: Milan Lucic, Connor Zary

Bartlett Hockey: Blake Coleman, Dennis Gilbert

Allian Roy – RSG Hockey, LLC: Matthew Phillips, Jeremie Poirier, Clark Bishop

The everlasting role agents play

Agents are pivotal in facilitating contracts and so much more in the NHL. Players want good relationships with their agents as they need to trust that their agents will help obtain whatever is in their clients’ best interest. Teams similarly want good relationships with agents as it factors into a player’s happiness with a team, contract negotiations, and even being an attractive landing spot for free agent players.

The list of agents for any team isn’t always set in stone, as players can move on from their agents and seek new representation. Most recently, the NHL saw defenceman John Klingberg part ways with Peter Wallen and turn to representation under Newport Sports Management.

To sum it up, good agents attract good players, and good teams attract both good agents and players. Hockey, and any other professional sport, remains a business, and putting their best foot forward is a shared goal among teams, players, and their agents.
