Flames Visual Recap R1G7: Gaudreau wins it in overtime in all-time Game 7 thriller

The Calgary Flames are going to the second round. In the tightest first round series in recent memory, they earned the hardest earned win to possibly open any playoff round ever. When they needed a goal the most, their best player showed up and called game.

Game recap

We’re going off-script on this recap and keeping this short. If you’re reading this, you should be out celebrating.

First period goals: Jamie Benn 40 seconds into the game (bad).

Second period goals: Tyler Toffoli, trade deadline goal-scoring specialist. Tied the game (good).

Vladislav Namestnikov scoring 31 seconds after Toffoli (really bad).

Matthew Tkachuk tying it up with a top-shelf snipe (really good).

End of regulation: Calgary with 52 shots, Dallas with 23.

Overtime: On Calgary’s 15th shot of overtime, Johnny Gaudreau ends the series with a sharp angle snipe. (Extremely good).

3–2, final score. Calgary wins the first round series in seven games. They advance to the second round for the first time since 2015.

Jacob Markstrom bests his goaltending counterpart in Jake Oettinger, the latter of whom if the Stars were without, this series would have been over much sooner.

Up next, the Battle of Alberta.
