Stanley Cup 2023 Odds: Playoff teams and favourites to win

The NHL playoffs and the quest for the Stanley Cup 2023 are fast approaching. This follows an exciting season where the Colorado Avalanche took the cup home for the first time since 2001, defeating Tampa Bay Lightning, the two-time defending champion, in six games. This year, playoffs start in April and the final is scheduled to begin on June 8 with Game 7 taking place on June 18 if needed.

So, which teams have made it to the playoffs, which ones have the best odds of winning, and how can fans place their bets online?

Playoff teams

There’s a total of eight playoff teams from each conference. Currently, the Eastern Conference qualifying teams are the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs. Meanwhile, the Western Conference teams are the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights.

The Stanley Cup Favourites

Boston Bruins (+380)

If there’s one team consistently topping all Stanley Cup odd tables, that’s the Boston Bruins. In the 2022–23 season, the Bostonians have been dominating the ice and leading the NHL in several categories. Not only has the team occupied the number one spot in the Atlantic Division ranking, but they are also on track to become the team with the most wins in NHL history.

Colorado Avalanche (+650)

The Colorado Avalanche were the big favourites in the 2021–22 season and went on to win the 2022 Stanley Cup after defeating Tampa Bay Lightning. But, can the team actually repeat this year? Winning back-to-back Stanley Cup titles is a challenging deed. On top of that, other Western Conference teams have been closing the gap. Even so, the Avalanches remain one of the favourites, with star players like defenseman Cale Makar, as well as Mikko Rantanen and team captain Nathan MacKinnon, leading the offensive attack.

Edmonton Oilers (+800)

After years of disappointing results, the Edmonton Oilers have finally made some remarkable progress. While the team made it all the way to the Western Conference Final, they were eventually defeated by the Avalanches. Still, the Oilers count on the powerful scoring duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and other remarkable figures like Evander Kane and Zach Hyman.

However, nothing is set in stone, and there are several other teams among the top favourites to win the 2023 cup, including the Toronto Maple Leafs (+900), Carolina Hurricanes (+1000), New York Rangers (+1200) and New Jersey Devils (+1000).

What about Calgary Flames?

The Flames have ranked low in most sportsbooks’ odds tables. As of April 10, things aren’t looking promising for the team. After a demoralising defeat against the Blackhawks, the Flames were looking to bounce back against the Vancouver Canucks, yet fell by a final score of 2–3 in the shootout. Now, with just two games left, the Flames aren’t guaranteed of getting into the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a wild card team yet.
