Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 9: A poor first period led to the Flames chasing the whole game, Winnipeg prevails in the back-to-back rematch

The Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets immediately rematched from their spirited tilt from the night before. Both teams opted to rest their starter, so it was a goaltending battle between David Rittich and Laurent Brossoit with both teams playing tired.

In the first period, the Jets got off to a rapid 2-0 lead on a shorthanded goal from Trevor Lewis, and a Derek Forbort goal just 30 seconds later. However, Matthew Tkachuk scored just 35 seconds after to cut the Jets’ lead in half. With just over six minutes left in the opening frame, Nikolaj Ehlers scored to restore the two goal lead for Winnipeg.

Nothing of note happened in the second period, and both teams looked fairly even in their chances. Down by two heading into the third, the Flames weren’t able to get much going to start the period. It wasn’t until midway through the period that Tkachuk scored his second of the night with Johnny Gaudreau extending his personal point streak to nine games on the play.

With the game-tying goal in reach, the Flames pressed hard in the last ten minutes, but were unable to find the equaliser. The Jets ended up taking the game, 3-2 final score.
